"I spent over thirty-thousand dollars (out of pocket) for

health care that did nothing for me." - Sarah Forth

I decided to seek chiropractic care because Western Medicine had failed me. Growing up I had a few allergies and very minor exercise induced asthma; nothing that ever caused me too much grief.

All of that changed in October of 2014, when I came down with a respiratory cold that left me feeling like I couldn't breathe. I was suffering from chest tightness, constant post nasal drip and a thick or fuzzy feeling in my upper chest and trachea area. About a week after the initial cold, the shortness of breath became so severe that I could not complete a sentence without pausing for a breath. I started feeling so bad that I ended up going to Urgent Care (as a Registered Nurse, this was the LAST thing I wanted to do!). The MD prescribed a round of steroids and an antibiotic, and a rescue inhaler (Ventolin). I also received 2 breathing treatments in the office that day. While the breathing treatments helped mildly, I still felt very tight in my chest. Suffice it to say that I saw several MDs, including Allergists and Immunologists over the next 6 months. Each time I would go to the doctor, I would be prescribed another drug and told that it would clear me up. Before I knew it, I was taking Dulera, Ventolin, Singulair, Astelin, Zyrtec and Flonase, along with several anti-allergy and anti-asthma supplements, and I also completed a full year of allergy injections and I was STILL NOT NORMAL! Nothing was working.

I finally broke down and spent the money on a Naturopath who suggested that I had mold in my home. I could hardly believe that this could be true since my house was very dry and clean. We didn’t even have a damp/musty smell in the basement. After a qualified building biologist inspected my home, we discovered mold in 3 HVACs. Having my home remediated was the first thing that brought my health to the next level. However, I was still suffering with allergies and asthma-like symptoms, though much less severe.

It was at this point that I decided to give chiropractic a try. I have been routinely checked by either Dr. Laurie or Dr. Lou Briegel at Wellness Chiropractic Center for about 5 months now. After the first few weeks, I was able to wean off all of my medications, and now only occasionally use a natural supplement to bring relief to what I would consider to be a minor irritation. Not only are my asthma and allergy symptoms mostly resolved, but I also no longer suffer from heartburn and my immune system is much stronger. I had been getting sick almost every 2 weeks for the last year, and now I rarely catch a cold. I have seen the benefits of chiropractic first hand and know that everyone should be routinely checked by a chiropractor to maximize their health.

"Chiropractic changed my life to the point that I made a

career change." - Sheila Johnson

My first visit to Briegel Chiropractic Center (now Wellness Chiropractic Center) was in May of 1997. My sister-in-law, Kim DeHart, was working at the office at the time and it took her 6 months to get me to come in. My youngest daughter, Morgan, was about a year and a half old and I had severe neck and shoulder pain from carrying her around. For about 6 months straight, everyday, the pain was there and I had a hard time sleeping. When I finally came to the Briegel's, Dr. Laurie explained about how the Nervous System works. When a bone is out of place, and is putting pressure on the nerve, the body is unable to function at its full potential and eventually will cause pain.

Before I was under chiropractic care I used to see a medical doctor at least 1-2 times a year. Back then I was prescribed a drug to take for the pain due to stomach acid. It helped while I was on it, but I never realized the side effects that would come from it. I didn't know that stomach acid was a natural/good thing for my body and the drug that I was on was actually killing my bodies acid.

Simply by choosing to take the medical route is what I believe lead to losing my gallbladder. I was also on the path to losing part of my intestines. At age 27, I had surgery to extract my gallbladder. I was having pain so I was referred to a specialist and he had done an ultrasound and found 3 small stones. For that reason alone they took out my entire gallbladder.

Afterwards I had issues digesting every meal I ate because my digestive system was weakened by the lack of my gallbladder. And I now know that there are supplements that will naturally flush the stones out of your body without the need of surgery. Looking back it makes me sick to my stomach, and I wish I had known there was another way. I was so young... only 27 years old. If I had not changed my way of living to chiropractic, I believe I would still be having surgeries today, and there is no doubt in my mind that I would have lost a portion of my intestines, and who knows what else by now.

Althought I had shoulder pains and a few headaches in the past, I was never one to pop a pain pill. I figured that I could deal with the pain and let my body heal naturally. Now that I know about chiropractic care, it all makes sense. I believe it was my innate (subconscious) telling me that I didn't need those pills.

After seeing Dr. Lou and Laurie, I was amazed that after only a few weeks of chiropractic adjustments my pain had disappeared. At that point, I only understood chiropractic could help with pain. It wasn't until a few months later that I no longer experienced that occasional headache or heartburn that I used to treat with over the counter drugs.

Chiropractic changed my life to the point that I made a career change. Chiropractic and wellness is now my career and my passion! I have been working for the Briegel's for 18 years!

"I am 75 years old today. I take no medications and

walk about 5 miles a day (that's more than what I did in

my 20's - 30's.)" - Ireland Edwards

Back in the 1970's, a friend of mine was telling me about how they had problems opening and closing their hands and how after seeing a chiropractor, the movement in their hands was much better. So I decided to go to a chiropractor to see what they could do for me.

Before being under chiropractic care I had frequent back pain and terrible migraines that I would get at least once a week. The migraines started in my early 30's and the medical doctor prescribed me to take Aspirin once a day, or at least whenever my headache would begin. But after just a few weeks of chiropractic care, I have not had a migraine since. That was almost 40 years ago.

As a child, I had my booster shots and vaccines but now I know better. I don't believe it's necessary for schools to require their students to get shots. Unless it's necessary for someone to get better, why make everyone do it? I had one flu shot in my entire life and 3 day's later I got very sick. So I said, 'That's not for me [shots]... that's for somebody else.' I haven't had a shot since.

On January 27, 2006 I had a minor surgery and was given a prescription pain medicine. For the first few days I used the medicine to help with my pain but I realized that I really didn't need them, so I stopped in the middle of the prescription. I haven't taken any pain medicine since then.

In my 30's, I was taking a blood pressure medicine to help with the stress I was under for worrying about my autistic son. After seeing my chiropractor I realized that I no longer needed to take my blood pressure medicine and my stress level had gone down. My son lives in a group home now, but I think that if I had continued to bring him to the chiropractor that it would have helped him greatly.

I am 75 years old today. I take no medications. I eat as healthy as I can, take my recommended vitamins and minerals, and walk about 5 miles a day (that's more than I did in my 20's-30's.) If I wasn't under regular chiropractic care for this long I believe I would be in a nursing home. And I want to stay out of that place!

I visit Dr. Briegel about every two weeks to maintain my overall health. Every now and then I have lower back pain but that is fixed every time I am adjusted. Chiropractic helps keep me in line.

I would recommend people to chiropractic, and seeing their chiropractor regularly. I would also recommend eating well and exercising. It's all about staying healthy and I'm in better health than I was when I started under chiropractic care!

“Dr. Laurie is the only one who has been able to help me.”

I’ve been under chiropractic care since the 1980’s. I would get adjusted two times a month due to the extreme pain I was in. I had a pain the my lower back that felt as if someone was taking a steal rod and poking me. I could barely breathe at times. There would be days so bad that it took me at least 5 minutes to get out of bed, having to first slide onto the floor and push myself up from there.

I had pain in my neck from a work injury and this strange tingling sensation down my right arm, as if it were asleep, that lasted for years and was constantly bothering me.

The chiropractors that I would go to never asked me about the pain I was in, where it was or why I had it. They just adjusted me. The only thing they wanted to talk to me about was, a check. (I never had X-Rays taken, nerve scans and stress tests, nor wellness classes like they do here.)

I would have headaches at least once to twice a week and I would have to take Advil to get through the day. I would have zero energy and I felt so much older than I really was.

Before I started coming to Wellness Chiropractic Center, I wouldn’t sleep at night. I would have to take ibuprofen every night just to keep my legs comfy enough so I could fall asleep. But now that I have been under care with Dr.’s Lou and Laurie, I no longer take ibuprofen to go to sleep. I just sleep.

All the pain and suffering that I endured for at least 15 years is now gone. Dr. Laurie is the only one who has been able to help me. You wouldn’t believe the difference she and Dr. Lou have made on my life.

Nothing ever helped me until I walked through the doors of this office.

I have been coming to WCC since December of 2012, I see Dr. Laurie twice a week and I never miss an appointment.

Since I have been a Wellness Partner here, it has opened my eyes to an overall better way of living: the foods I consume, exercise regularly, I take less medicine, and I understand the importance of natural healing and frequent adjustments.

Last year I got the flu shot, but it will be the last one I will ever have. A) Because I got the flu anyway, and B) Dr. Lou has taught me how toxic shots and vaccinations are to the body and I will not put that in mine.

The improvement of my life has increased at least 90% since I have been a Wellness Partner at WCC.

I have, and will continue to recommend this office to everyone I meet! I have already referred several people from my church, my family, and even people I pass by at the grocery store.

Thank you so much Dr. Lou and Laurie! I am forever grateful, you have fingers of magic!

What Did You Say – You Can Hear?

My name is Emily and I am nine years old.  You probably wonder why I am holding this hearing aid and smiling.  Well the truth is – it is mine and I had to wear it everyday in school.  And I’m smiling because I don’t need it anymore!!!

“I never liked wearing this hearing aid in school, it was

big and it hurt.  I don’t have to do that anymore!”

Emily was diagnosed with significant hearing loss in her left ear in January of 2009.  We never knew there was a problem, until she failed the annual hearing screen at her school.  We set up an appointment with her pediatrician, who in turn referred us to an ENT.  Only after these doctor visits did we really start to notice the signs.  She couldn’t hear anyone talking or whispering in that ear and she couldn’t talk on the phone using the left ear.  The audiologist performed several tests but couldn’t really tell us what had caused the hearing loss.  We were told that it had probably been that way since birth.  It was recommended that she have a hearing aid to wear at school.

September 30th, 2009, I brought her to see Dr. Lou because she was complaining of headaches and dizziness.  Dr. Lou took x-rays and determined that her atlas was pushed to the left and twisted forward.  He adjusted her and Emily said she felt better.  That was on a Tuesday.  On Thursday, I picked her up from school and she said “Mommy, whisper in my ear!”  I noticed that she wasn’t wearing her hearing aid.  I whispered her name and she looked at me with her whole face lit up and she said, “I heard that!!  You said my name!!”  I was shocked!  So I whispered again “I love you!”  She looked at me and she said, “I love you, too!”  I couldn’t believe it!  She said when she didn’t wear her hearing aid to school, the teacher sounded very low but today she thought the teacher was talking really loud. She soon realized it wasn’t the teacher that was different, it was her!  We were so excited that we called all of our family and friends and she talked to every one of them with the phone to her left ear.  With just one adjustment she had gotten her hearing back.  Her hearing has continued to improve since then.  She says that the office should be renamed The Miracle Office and we couldn’t agree more.   Emily said it perfectly, “Thanks times a million Dr. Lou!”
